Taxes

Ghana started charging taxes to the traders as they traveled into and out of Ghana. The taxes helped pay for the armies so they could become stronger and bigger, also it helped the armies get bigger and better weapons to use to conquer other people. The kings also used the gold as currency or money. The king would have Gold nuggets but nobody else would be able to have gold nuggets, only gold dust to ensure that the king was richer than his subjects.

Tunka Manin

Tunka Manin was one of Ghana's great Kings. Ghana was at the peak of its success under Tunka Manin's rule. He was one of the great rulers nephew so he became king. It was wierd back then because royalty was not passed down Father to Son, but Uncle to Nephew.
